What is the EPIS system?

In a sector as highly regulated as the gambling industry, security and transparency are major challenges. Your favourite online casino site in Belgium, Loco Casino, has made this a top priority.

Just like the Belgian Gaming Commission. That is why it introduced the EPIS system back in 200. This initiative follows the same logic by providing a technological and regulatory framework designed to verify who is allowed to play.

For online casino operators like us, EPIS (Excluded Persons Information System) is much more than a simple control tool: it is a real cornerstone that guarantees a safe, responsible gambling experience in line with modern standards, just like responsible gaming.

Protecting vulnerable players

But what do these four letters actually mean? The EPIS system is a national database managed by the Belgian Gaming Commission. Its main function is to prevent people registered on this list from accessing land-based casinos, gaming halls and licensed online casino websites in Belgium.

Every time a player tries to log in or enter a legal establishment, their identity is automatically checked. If their name appears in EPIS, access is immediately denied.

This measure reflects a clear objective: protecting vulnerable players and ensuring a safer gambling environment in Belgium. It is the equivalent of a blacklist — designed to keep everyone safe while making sure gambling remains a form of entertainment.

Who can be on the blacklist?

Several categories of people can be concerned. As you may have read on our blog, players can choose to self-exclude themselves. Some professions are also incompatible with gambling activities.

This means that magistrates, notaries or police officers will never be able to register on Loco Casino or enter a gaming venue. Given their responsibilities, this would clearly create conflicts of interest.

Finally, people who are under debt mediation or banned by a court decision are also placed on the blacklist. For them, only illegal sites remain — which is of course strongly discouraged.

How to request your registration?

First of all, it is important to know that every adult is automatically registered in the system from the day they turn 21. Of course, this general file must be distinguished from the blacklist itself. To request an exclusion, the process is very simple.

You simply need to complete a form, present an identity card and, in some cases, use the Itsme app. To register a relative, the procedure is longer: a specific form must be filled in and the necessary supporting documents must be provided.

To be removed from the blacklist, the possibilities depend on the type of registration. If you chose self-exclusion, you can submit a request after three months. However, when the exclusion results from a court decision, only a judge can decide to lift the ban.

So that gambling always remains a pleasure

In Belgium, the EPIS system has established itself for more than two decades as an essential tool to secure the gambling environment. It protects vulnerable players, holds operators accountable and ensures that only licensed establishments are allowed to offer their services.

To play with complete peace of mind, it is recommended to choose a legal casino or a Belgian online casino site recognised by the Belgian Gaming Commission. This is a simple way to combine entertainment and security.

So, if gambling remains a controlled experience for you, head to Loco Casino to enjoy dice slots, dice games and table games such as roulette or online blackjack.
